AquaristSpecies.net features a 'crowd-sourced' database of Aquarists and the Species they keep.
Generally you'll begin with the Search Species option which is always available on the top of each page.
You can search by entering the Genus and species name in full or just part of the name. For example 'Apisto' brings up all of the Apistogramma species in the database. You can also enter any keywords you think might show up in the description. For example 'Lake Tanganyika' or 'Amazon' returns many species native to these bodies of water.
If you're looking for a single species it's best to enter the species name, or enough of the name to bring it near the top of your search results. For example entering 'caudopunc' will bring up the species Neolamprologus caudopunctatus.
Species searches return a list of results each of which is a link to the associated Species page. These pages provide general descriptions of the species along with links to Aquarists keeping this fish. If you keep the species you can click on the 'I keep this fish' button to add your own Aquarist Species entry.
If a Species isn't found, you can easily add it to the database. An 'Add Species' link always appears if your search returns no results.
You can also use the Add My Species Guided Tutorial to help you quickly get your Aquarist's species added to the database.
