The Darkedged Splitfin is native to the Upper Rio Lerma Basin and Lake Zempoala in Mexico. It is a livebearer inhabiting springs and lakes. It prefers cool, hard, slow moving water and is an omnivore feeding primarily on invertebrates with some algae and detritus.
