The Tarascan Splitfin is native to the Lower Rio Lermaand and Upper Rio Ameca basins in Mexico. It is a livebearer inhabiting streams, rivers, and springs. It prefers cool to warm, hard, slow moving water and is a carnivore feeding on small invertebrates.
