Species Profile:  Melanotaenia cf. goldiei "Aru IV"

Description

One of several distinct rainbowfish forms gathered from the Aru Islands (Aru I–IV) by collectors, tentatively assigned to goldiei by German hobbyists though its taxonomic placement remains unresolved — some speculation ties it to an old, rarely-used name senckenbergianus. M. goldiei itself is known to be a widespread species complex likely masking several distinct taxa across its huge New Guinea/Aru range, so treat each form as a separate species, and do not attempt to mix the different forms together for breeding.
