Species Profile:  Melanotaenia Sp 'Kali Datu'

Description

This is a larger Melanotaenia getting to be about 10 -12 cm in length. They typically sport a large black band that covers the bottom half of the body, large reddish orange pectoral and dorsal fins with a yellowish orange upper half. Kali Datu is on Vogelkop Peninsula in western New Guinea, about 20 km west of the small town Meyado. The Meyado region has very soft and acidic water, with tannins from leaves and barks. Water temperatures are usually between 25 and 28 °C.
