Bandit (male) and Bonnie (female) spawned in an established 40-gallon breeder with a Walstad-style setup. The aquarium was maintained at 24°C using straight conditioned Oshawa tap water at approximately pH 7.4. Following the spawning embraces, Bandit collected the eggs and carried them as a paternal mouthbrooder. He stopped eating while holding and retained the brood for approximately two weeks before releasing fully formed, free-swimming fry. More than 100 fry were initially observed. Bonnie was later lost after jumping from the aquarium, possibly after being chased by the male.

The fry were raised with the male in the established 40-gallon Walstad aquarium at 24°C. Their first food was powdered fry food, followed by microworms as they grew. They are now large enough to eat juvenile earthworms. No routine water changes were performed; the aquarium was topped up as required. More than 100 fry were initially observed, and at least 50 healthy juveniles remained by late August 2026, successfully reaching well beyond 60 days of age.
