A popular shell dweller endemic to Lake Tanganyika, very similar to N. multifasciatus ('multies') and can be differentiated by their vertical stripes which cover the full body including the gill plate right up to their eyes.
Category: Cichlids
Global Region: Africa
Distribution: Lake Tanganyika
Genetic Line: Aquarium Strain
Year Acquired: 2023
Acquired a couple of groups at auctions in 2023. Immediately started spawning. Kept them with A. calvus and obviously didn't raise the fry ... but moved them to their own tank and they established a colony. Now a year later I have moved the original pair back with the A calvus pair and they are co-existing well both pairs breeding. The remaining colony is growing well.
Species Spawned: Yes
Typical shell dwellers. Parents tolerate fry to a point, and then the young move away as they grow. Easy to target feed BBS.
