Atabapo Red II does not turn nearly as bright of a red as Atabapo Red I in adulthood. Juveniles are typically a gray/brown color and have a very distinct bar pattern on the top half of their bodies resembling a ladder. This disappears as the fish matures and red coloration begins to show.
