Aquarist Notes

Genetic Line:   Aquarium Strain

Line Traits:   Gold

Year Acquired:   2023

Acquired a group of 8 from several sources including 6 very young fish from Jose Gaitan, a lone adult male from a virtual auction, and another young adult from Dave's Rare Fish. Raised them separately until the smallest was ~1" and combined them in a 50g lowboy 4'x2' footprint tank. These are a bit more aggressive than other shellies and appreicate the room.

Species Spawned:   Yes

Not surprisingly, the large male is the dominant fish and he has paired with one of the females. Together they defend a sandy open region that is maybe 20% of the available footprint. About 8-10 fry are growing well, feasting on BBS, and beginning to spread out. At this point they are still protected by the parents.

Have Reared Fry?   Yes

Dominant pair established space ~25% of 4'x2' tank footprint. Currently 8 young fish cooexist with the parents after a few days of being 'chased out' yet they persisted and the parents relented. We will see how that holds up.
