Aquarist Notes

Genetic Line:   Aquarium Strain

Year Acquired:   2024

Acquired a group of 5 young F1 fish from Greg Gregory in February 2024. Placed them in a 28g custom 20"x20" footprint tank with plants and botanicals. Grew like crazy. These guys are voracious eaters and surprisingly tolerant of conspecifics. They also JUMP. Now I am down to a trio.

Species Spawned:   Yes

Nearly a year after acquiring the young group a pair has formed and spawned for the first time. Male is carrying eggs and isn't eating (or maybe eating very little). He comes out for feeding and noses up to the food but doesn't take any. Hoping he will hold for the full term which is ~2 weeks. Well after 3-4 days he was eating again. May be that the water wasn't soft enough as hard water can harden the egg and prevent hatching. Going forward mixing RO water 75% with well water. Hoping next time male will hold for full development and release of fry.
