One of the larger 'Julies' endemic to Lake Tanganyika.
Category: Cichlids
Global Region: Africa
Distribution: Lake Tanganyika
Collection Point: Burundi
Genetic Line: Aquarium Strain
Year Acquired: 2020
Purchased five juveniles from Dave Schumacher. After quarantining, I moved them into a 75g Tanganyikan community, where they still reside. I wasn't able to sex them at the time. I lost one of the juveniles in quarantine and one got picked off in the 75g shortly after being introduced.
Species Spawned: Yes
Of the remaining three I originally ordered, there was clearly at least a pair because I had fry within weeks. I have managed to get several spawns out of them, but the last was in 2022. I kept a couple of offspring in the tank and now have four or five adults. I do not know why they will not spawn again. I have rearranged the tank multiple times since the last spawn trying to give them something they're comfortable with, but no luck.
Have Reared Fry? Yes
Fry weren't fussy about food. They happily consumed crushed flake and might have even grazed on some algae in the tank, though I don't recall witnessing that.
