Category: Cichlids
Global Region: South America
Distribution: Orinoco River Basin
Collection Point: Rio Inirida
Genetic Line: Wild Caught
Line Traits: Mouthbrooding severum
Year Acquired: 2022
Acquired a group of wild caught young fish ~2-3" in size from Tangled Up In Cichlids. Raised them to adults. Very shy fish at first, but once established will come out front and be ready for feeding. Two pairs formed out of the original 6. Currently keeping a breeding pair with a breeding pair of A. rivulatus. They get along very well.
Species Spawned: Yes
Left to themselves, the male is very aggressive towards the female when not spawning. I have had much better luck keeping them with another pair of larger SA cichlids. They typically spawn on a near vertical sloped substrate. Tile, resin ornaments, and driftwood have all been used. Tank glass was a spawning site once. Early spawns did not result in reliable fertilization. Since then (5-6 spawns) they've done better, but still eating the eggs. Hopefully they will figure it out.
