Aquarist Notes

Photo of aquarist's species:

Genetic Line:   FX 3rd or more Generation

Year Acquired:   2024

Acquired a group of 6 young fish ~1"+ from Dave's Rare Fish early in 2024. Lost 1 early on but the others coexisted well in a custom 28g tank with a 30x20" footprint. A male established dominance and spawns began occurring regularly. The males did begin some fighting for dominance and the dominant male suffered some eye damage from fighting and died. The new dominant male goes untested and the colony established itself with ver little fighting going forward. Moved them to a 50g 'Lowboy' tank with a 4'x2' footprint and they filled it up with a nice colony of 50+ fish. Recently sold most off at auctions and am now watching the colony rebuild. Really enjoy this shellie.

Spawning notes:

Species Spawned:   Yes

Early spawns with 2 females observed with tiny fry popping out of the shells. Fry did not last first few spawns but eventually one of the females figured it out and now have a well established colony.

Have Reared Fry?   Yes

Fry are staying near the mother's shell but slowly spreading out to new shells. Feasting on BBS and small fry-sized pellets. They grow fairly quickly and spread out throughout the tank.
