A less common shell dweller endemic to Lake Tanganyika, L. ornatipinnis has an elongated body and less of a tendency to move large amounts of sand substrate compared with other shell dwellers. Variations in fin patterns and subtle color differences occur with localized populations.

Kept with a group of Xystichromis nuchisquamulatus, I saw only 3 or 4 fry until I removed the Xystichromis. Once alone, breeding increased and they are on their way to having a sizeable colony.
