Common Name:   Red Spot Cichlid

 

Description

Medium sized, moderately aggressive central American Cichlid. Relatively easy to keep but can be sensitive to bad water quality. The male is slightly larger and more colorful than the female, both sexes display blue eyes. Spawns readily in warm water (upper 70's) with typical "Amphilophus" type spawning behavior though pair bond can be weak. Fry are small but grow fast on baby brine shrimp, then small fry foods.

The adult fish spawn regularly when the temperature goes above 78. If not kept in a species tank fry are best raised separate.
