Description

One of the smallest of all cichlids. Live over mud and spawn in mud caves carved down into the mud. One of only a handful of substrate-spawning cichlids in both the New and Old World that have non-adhesive eggs.

Mud spawners. In the aquarium, I spawn mine in PVC pipe L-tubes with caps on the end of each tube. Eggs are not adhesive, so they move around in the spawning site.

Have Reared Fry?   Yes

Parents will NOT tolerate older fry in the tank when they have laid a new batch of eggs. They will drive off the older fry. If the tank is too small for the fry to be driven off, the fry older fry will be killed.
