Species Profile: Pseudomugil cyanodorsalis

Common Name:   blueback blue-eye

Description:   Typical blue-eyes size and shape. Males have bold, metallic blue stripe along the back with yellow below. Females plain. While very tolerant of salinity and can survive for a period in fresh or salt water, they thrive only in brackish (about 1/2 of seawater). They are also quite tolerant of high or low temps if acclimated slowly.

Line Traits:   can go from fresh water to seawater and back

Year Acquired:   2016

They thrive in 1/2 seawater. In fresh water they do not breed and slowly wither. They live happily in full seawater for a time, but haven't tested long term. Literature says that even hypersaline is tolerated.

Nonadhesive eggs are laid in the substrate. Adults eat any fry which hatch in the tank.
