Species Profile: Haplochromis sp. “thick skin”

Description:   F1 from Ssese Island - looks like the common “thick skin or 44” but with an orange/red patch behind the operculum. Beta males can turn a stunning black with blue iridescence. Intra-specific aggression is obvious in both a species-only tank and when kept with other species. Insectivore that thrives on an omnivorous diet.

Line Traits:   Red/orange shoulder atop usual thick skin coloration.

Year Acquired:   2024

I believe these were caught by Kim Pedersen and were ordered through NECA FROM Europe in June of 2024. Parents were wild caught.
